Legal Clinic Sessions


  • The legal clinic outreach sessions which have been organized during the period of August 15, 2013- August 15, 2014

First clinic session – 12 January 2014

A session was held on the 12th of January 2014 in the higher institute for security and administrative development within the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

The session was attended by students in the institute and tackled the importance of the citizen’s rights to access to justice and the role of the related governmental institutions (among them the MOI) can play in raising the awareness of the citizens on their legal rights. The session also highlighted on the availability of the legal help desk in Rusafa Justice Palace and provided an overview on the legal services and assistance that will be provided by the help desk office.

Second clinic session – 24 January 2014

The session was held on the 24th of January 2014 in the Oil and Cultural Center in Baghdad. It was attended by participants from different civil society organizations, media, and parliamentarian committees. It was addressed by the project manager Dr Emad Dawood who presented an overview on the services provided by the legal help desk office in Rusafa Justice Palace. Dr Dawood highlighted on the main role of the help desk in providing legal assistance to the vulnerable and marginalized groups who are either not aware of their legal rights or reluctant to access the courts. He also emphasized on the importance of the cooperation between the help desk and the different related parties, among them the CSOs and the parliamentarian committees.

Third Clinic Session – 6 March 2014

A session was held on the 6th of March 2014 in the cultural center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. The session gathered around 35 participants from the cultural centers located in the various areas of Baghdad, in addition to teachers, directors in the ministry of culture, lawyers, and media representatives. The session highlighted on the availability of the legal help desk in Rusafa Justice Palace and on the legal services provided by the help desk office.

Fourth Clinic Session – 11 March 2014

A session was held on the 11th of March 2014 in Al-Mansour University.
The session was attended by around 40 participants consisting mainly of the university students, in addition to representatives from the ministry of interior and the press. The session tackled the importance of the citizen’s rights to access to justice and the availability of the legal help desk in Rusafa Justice Palace. An overview on the legal services of the help desk office has been also provided.

Fifth clinic session – 1 April 2014

The session gathered around 30 participants from the staff and directors of the different departments in the wakef center. During the session, the project manager informed the participants about the availability of the legal help desk in Rusafa Justice Palace and provided them with an overview on the legal services provided by the help desk office. The project manager highlighted the type of services and legal assistance that can be offered to the poor/vulnerable groups. He also proposed to cooperate with the wakef center to support citizens who cannot afford to pay a private lawyer, namely women, juveniles, persons with disabilities…

Sixth Clinic Session – 12 April 2014

A session was held on the 12th of April 2014 in Women for Future Organization.
The session was attended by around 25 participants consisting of some CSOs representatives in addition to separated couples benefiting from the social assistance of the Women for Future Organization. An overview on the legal services of the help desk office has been provided to participants.

Seventh Clinic Session – 20 May 2014

A session was held on the 20th of May 2014 in Rusafa Justice Palace.

The session gathered around 20 participants from the staff of the different departments in Rusafa Justice Palace. An overview on the legal services of the help desk office has been provided to participants, with an emphasis on the type of services and legal assistance that can be offered by the help desk office to the citizens.

Eighth Clinic Session – 21 May 2014

A session was held on the 21st of May 2014 in the National Center for Administrative Development and Information Technology.

The session was attended by the main staff of the national center. The session tackled the importance of the citizen’s rights to access to justice and the availability of the legal help desk in Rusafa Justice Palace

Ninth Clinic Session- 31 May 2014

A session was held on the 31st of May 2014 in cooperation with Peace Ard Al Nakhlah organization.

The session was attended by around 20 participants consisting of some CSOs representatives, representatives from some public departments and representatives from the academic sector. An overview on the legal services of the help desk office has been provided to participants.

Tenth Clinic Session – 12 June 2014

A session was held on the 12th of June 2014 in Rusafa Justice Palace.

The session gathered around 30 participants from the National Center for Human Rights, representatives of NGOs dealing with human rights issues, law students and staff from Rusafa Justice Palace.

During this outreach session, an overview on the legal services of the help desk office has been provided to participants. The session also talked the importance of the cooperation with the concerned NGOs dealing with human rights issues. The latter can guide the citizens and inform them about the services of the legal help desk.

Eleventh Clinic Session – 12 August 2014

A session was also held on the 12th of August 2014 in the Arab Geology Union. The session was attended by around 20 participants, including staff of the commission of integrity and NGOs representatives who have been informed of the services provided by the legal help desk.

Twelfth Clinic Session – 14 August 2014

The last session was held on the 14th of August 2014 in the Baghdad Hotel. The session was attended by staff from “the Women for Peace Organization” as well as CSO representatives. This session focused on the role of the legal help desk in protecting vulnerable women’s rights and the contribution of CSOs in this regard.

Till date, three legal clinic outreach sessions were organized. These are the following:

First Clinic Session – 18 February 2015

An outreach clinic session was held on the 18th of February 2015 at the city council (municipality of Al- Sader city).

The session gathered around 35 participants consisting of some CSOs’ representatives, representatives of some public departments.  During the session, an overview on the importance of access to justice has been provided to the participants. The session also highlighted the type of services provided by the legal help desk office.

Second Clinic Session – 1 March 2015

An outreach clinic session was held on the 1st of March 2015 at the refugees’ compounds in Nahrawan and Bismayah regions.

The session gathered around 65 participants from the refugees. During the session, an overview on the importance of access to justice has been provided to the participants. The session also highlighted the refugees’ rights and the types of services provided by the legal help desk office.

Third Clinic Session – 16 April 2015

An outreach clinic session was held on the 16th of April 2015 at the local council of Al-A’amiriya region.

The session gathered around 50 participants from the refugees. During the session, an overview on the importance of access to justice has been provided to the participants. The session also highlighted the refugees’ rights and on the availability and types of legal services provided by the help desk office.
